Could someone recommend the most quite CPU fan for AMD XP 1700+?
I bought the Dragon Orb 3, this fan is extremely LOUD!! I can't believe it!!

Thanks

i would go with a zalamn wiith like a 92mm fan or a 120mm blowing on it. i like the lower sound of large fans over the high pitch wine of small ones. also look into sound dampening mate's that akassa makes, they help alot. i also saw some weird turbine looking thing a while back that was said to be quite.

or put an 80mm to 92mm adapter on it and use a 92mm panaflow. the 80 just don't move air. and i had an 80 l1a on my cpu and it's just not enough, at least get the higher rpm panaflow, it's still quite.

Basically any heat sink will suffice, and just replace the fan on there with something quieter if it displeases you. A friend of mine has a copper SK6, and the fan that came with it (4k rpm or so by Delta) was just too loud so he took it off and replaced it with one half the rpm's. Works perfect 😀

I've got a 1600+ @ 172mhz FSB, 1.8ghz and it runs fine with only a Panaflo on the Alpha and no case fans... 🙂

wow, what are are your idle and full load temps on that insane3d? what's room temp?

Not sure on temps just yet since I just set the system up and I'm trying to figure out whether or not my board is reading from the diode or not. My room temp is around 70-75F, and it's been running Prime 95 for two days now..

Besides, I personally don't moniter temps much after the intial build and testing unless I have stability issues to try to solve. I think people worry too much about the temps on their Athlon's IMO.

🙂

The retail heatsinks modified with a quieter fan (16.1 dba) worked well for my dual 1800+ system.

If it worked for 1800's it would work for 1700's even better.

It's cheap, and DAMN quiet.
