What is the most popular FPS as of now??

These CS and CS:S players have to be outside of the country. I don't know ANYBODY who has played any counter strike game for 5 years. Anybody know if we can break down these CS numbers by country? I'll bet the majority is coming from south america (Brazil and Argentina mainly).

Umm no it's still one of the best FPS's ever. Steam isn't in those poorer countries either.

I'm not arguing the merits of the game, just asking where all these players are. Have you or your friends played it in the last few months (so that you are included in those quoted numbers)?

Keep in mind that CS:S had a pretty substantial update recently (few weeks back) which probably sparked renewed interest for a while. I'm not sure how it was doing before that update but I'm sure that's a big chunk of the reason. There's now achievements and all sorts of other stuff that other Valve games have had and are now in CS:S, so quite a few have picked it up again. Plus there was a big sale on it some time around the update so quite a few got it on the cheap.

The Counter Strike Source team that my son is on has finally gotten sponsored and so they got to go to a couple of big lan tournaments in Michigan and Virginia this month.

They got 7th place in Michigan, out of 23 teams.... where he said a couple teams from the finals shown on G4TV last year were there.

They got 3rd place in Virginia, not sure how many teams that there were.

I would like to go to one of these, not to play competitive like these kids.....but just for the fun and to meet some casual gamers like myself.

Football Manager 2010?? What the f...... never even heard of that before.

Yeah, for some reason it's very popular in other parts of the world outside the U.S....like the sport it is based on.

Perhaps something it has in common with Counter Strike? 😉

The CS 1.6 numbers are off by a great amount. Pretty sure it counts the bots that are on servers, much like it does for the TFC servers (there are not 250 people playing TFC, 80% of those counted are bots).

Also, are 60k people REALLY playing MW2 on PC without dedicated servers? If so, I'm amazed at how far down we have fallen as a platform that people would accept that.

You've never seen the "Boycott MW2" steam photos? 90% of them bought the game on release and play it like sheep. Proof that most companies can get away with whatever they want so long as they have a product to sell. If it had been new IP from an unheard of company, that shit would have bombed.

CS:S is still pretty popular, lots of fun mods like Gun Game. A lot of servers are filled with afk people though. It can still be a fun game. I imagine one reason why a lot of people continue to play it is the low system requirements compared to new games like MW2, you can see what people have for hardware on steam. I would never go back to CS:S myself, but I got MW2 on the console so I didn't need to worry about system requirements.

I play CS:S daily. It wasn't the update that brought people to the game, really. It's been around the numbers that it's at now for over a year.

It's been all Tf2 for me lately. It's always a great game to go back to. Plus, news of a big update coming soon.

Robin informs them a new update is coming, and "likely" due in about a month (Valve Time) that will imbue the game with item trading, a brand new game mode, and approximately twenty new weapons and hats.
