What is the most important thing to you in a computer game?

Gameplay, and then graphics in a close second. Third, if the game can be played online, is the wish that that particular game doesn't have a large 12 year-old mass fanbase clogging every server it can be played on doing nothing but running around the maps doing fuckall and screaming into their microphone. You know, kinda like every online-capable X-Box game.

Overall gameplay which is a combination of physics, challenging but not annoying puzzles, good mixup of maps and encounters, computer AI and user interface.

Oh with an honerable mention of a thouroughly tested and unbuggy product.

story. Story. STORY. STORY

Unfortunately, nobody bothers including that anymore.

The Metal Gear Solid franchise thrives on story. Sadly, most people get pissed at it and whine about the abundance of cut-scenes. I loved the games for the story though. It makes the game 10x more enjoyable.

I'll have to go with STORY, followed very quickly by THE CONTROLS. I hate console port controls with a passion, but some PC native games can be just as bad.

fun factor and gameplay are the top things I look for in games in general. graphics are important to me but not that important.

heck I play zelda the ocarina of time, which in my opinion is the best game ever created, and although the graphics arent so hot after 6 or so years since its release, its still an amazing game.

depends on the type of game,

when it comes to fps games I like multiplayer support with various weapons(vehicles), tactics, and easy ability to run mods (BF Desert Combat Final for example)

when it comes to rpg's graphics take a back seat to story line, long mundane micromanagement (I love Age of Wonders for that) and stability (most rpg's really tax a system and are often poorly optimized)

I don't play mmorpgs because of the extra fees incurred after paying for the game in the first place. (I'd rather pay $150-$200 (instead of $50-60) for an mmorpg if I didn't have to pay extra fees in order to participate)

The atmosphere.

That's why I'm currently playing Betrayal at Krondor and Gabriel Knight 2 instead of Half Life 2 or Doom 3.
