I need a REALLY really soft Queen size bed. Mine is so hard I can't sleep. I'm used to the really old feather beds and I need something soft again.

Anyone have any advice?

Tempur-Pedic

P.S. Don't get me wrong. It's soft but still supportive. I don't have the mattress but I have one of these pillows and it's the coolest.

Why, the Craftmatic? Adjustable Bed, of course!

Well, at least that's what the guy on the commercials says... :)

Seriously, though, all I know is the bigger the bed, the better. My GF and I have a California King, good lord, do I love having a huge bed!

I love my king sized waterbed. Does that count?

The thing is WAY too big for my room, though, there's nowhere I can be in my room to get the entire bed in the viewfinder of my camera. But there's no way in hell I'm getting rid of it.

Big beds are awesome.

Wow, $1,400 is alot to spend on a mattress. I'm going to a local retailer tonight to try this bad boy out (with income tax check in hand).

Apparently, if you don't like the mattress after two weeks you can return it free of charge. They even cover the shipping!

Yeah and I think if you order it they give you a free pillow you can keep even if you return the bed. Make sure to ask about that if you decide to try it.

I was actually sad to see that they had started doing infomercials for Tempur-Pedic because those "cheapen" what really is an awesome product.

If the mattress is too expensive I know they sell mattress "pads" made of the stuff that sit on top of your current mattress.

Go to brookstone and ask about the mattresses. They drill us so that the associates know the products in and out.

There's a *90* day guarantee on the TempurPedic pillows and mattresses at Brookstone. You can try it on the spot, too.

My old girlfriend had a McRoskey Airflex. Holy cow! Just amazing comfort and support.

Apparently when Queen Elizabeth visited San Francisco (the Airflex is handmade in SF), she stayed at the St Francis Hotel, where the ritziest rooms all have McRoskey mattresses. Shortly thereafter the English consolate contacted McRoskey and they placed a large order to replace all the beds in Buckingham Palace with Airflexes.

Not cheap, but how else can you share a bed with the queen?

Supersoft matteresses are really bad for your back. You want something soft but firm. Get a good solid mattress (extra firm) with a pillow top on it. Best of both worlds. Go to a local furniture store and find one of the top of the line beautyrests and lay down on it for 15 or, bring your own pillow and catnap. :)

A firm mattress better?

Absolutely not! A hard, nonconforming surface forces your body to adapt to its flat shape, bending your spine into an unnatural (and uncomfortable) position. The result: lower back pain and less restful sleep. This conventional surface also creates pressure points at the shoulders, hips, and feet, which can cause you to toss and turn trying to find a more comfortable position. On a hard mattress, there simply isn't a more comfortable position.

That's just an old wives tale which is very wrong. I've seen many case studies and professionals warn against firm mattress's.

Speaking of waterbeds, circulating the water in the bed through a waterblock to cool down a hot t-bird sounds like a great idea! The water would probably feel great in the winter months.

Cheers!

And an ultra soft mattress allows excesive flexure of the spinal collumn and can be particularly damaging if you lay on your side. I've never hurt more than when I've slept on ultra soft mattreses. Sure you sleep, but it makes your back hurt (because you often end up bent too much, this becomes particularly important the older you get). On a firm matteress you might not sleep but it doesn't fvck your back up. But you didn't listen to what I said, get a firm mattress with a pillow top. The pillow top gives you the comfort of a soft mattress but it doesn't allow the excessive flexing that ultra-softs will. Do what I said, go down to the local bedroom/furniture wharhouse and try out a few of the upper end beautyrest mattresses. They won't set you back as much as some of the ultra pricey ones recommended on here (about $6-700 for a matching queen set) and you will find them extremly comfortable.

Dude, didn't you hear what I said? I'm ON A FIRM MATTRESS, and my back has been killing me, and yes I sleep on my side.

I totally disagree with everything your saying, and all case studies I have seen also disagree.

Fine don't listen to what I'm saying you obviously have no idea what a pillowtop mattress is, live in ignorance.

P.S. I think what your talking about is called the "hammock effect" resulting from sleeping on waterbeds and of course, hammocks.

That doesn't apply to a soft mattress.
