Did anyone mention
EBITDA?

Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation and Amortization.

That's the number they show you when they are telling you they are profitable, but it doesn't really mean they ARE profitable :D
I hate that.

"We made $10M this year!"
"WOW! I thought we were doing terribly."
"Well, that's EBITDA. We actually took a $30M loss b/c we had to make good on all of our VC. We're also laying you off. Don't tell anyone we're not really profitable."
"OK, thanks! Have a nice day!"
"For real, or a nice day BITDA?"

When I hear an exec say "Eebitdah," I get all edgy.
