God that a tough one to answer. I guess, for me, it would probably be either Quake 2 MP or Quake 3 MP. I played both in DM for about 2 years on a regular bassis. The cool thing is, it dodnt cost me $10/mo. :D

CS and Diablo II were just too addicting. Dark age of camelot is starting to suck me in. Haven't played AC, though.

X-COM: Terror from the Deep. I've played that game from the 486(before Pentium ;) ) days all the way till up to my current pc. It is one of the abosolute HARDEST games to beat ever. It took me years and years to beat it. You think you are winning and then bam. The aliens find your base. And the attacks never stop. I highly recommend it though. It comes in a 3 pack with the original and the next one.

Well, when you factor in how much freaking time I spent playing AC1, the $9.95 that I paid per month was nothing:

I played it seriously for 10 months before I moved. The total amount of time I spent "in-game" playing was about 31 days.

(31 days in-game) / 10 months "real-life" time = 3.1 days per month = 75 hours per month playing AC1

$10 monthly fee / 75 hours = 13 cents per hour.

Believe me, when you addicted to a MMORPG, the monthly fee is nothing. Hell, the embarrassing part is I paid for two accounts per month. One for my main characters, and the other account for all my mules.
I knew many players that were paying for 4 or 5 accounts per month.

I had to give up on that one - the first and third were much easier, IMHO. Kudos to you for beating it =)

For me, it would have to be a tie between Alpha Centauri and Civ II Gold.

Haha!
were you a darktidian? Man, I don't go more than a day or two without something reminding me of AC, still to this day. I think it's because it was my life back then...Ahhh I got some good use out of those years at college :D

Asheron's Call, 3 years.
Current games I'll still play right now are UT2K4, RCT2, Thief 3, Doom 3.

Nah, I started up on Solclaim and stayed there. I found a great group of people to play with and we had a fairly large guild with a mansion, weekly questing, etc. I got started late in AC1 (didn't start until October 2001) and played seriously for almost a year. I then moved and lost broadband, but started back playing a few months later when I finally got cable again.

I've got a level 94 UA with life magic specialized that can cast level 7 spells in 3 schools (life, creature and item). Several of my old guildmates are slowly moving back to AC1 after AC2, Anarchy Online, and Horizons and I'm itching to reinstall it. :D

I'd try AC1 again if levels weren't so hyper-inflated. Just look around treestats.com and you'll see. You need to be over lvl 126 and in an uber guild to do anything it seems anymore.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Some of the monarchs of the larger clans on SC are approaching or are past level 200.

SINGLE PLAYER: Thief with Half-Life a close second. Both had very engrossing storylines.

MULTI PLAYER: The TFC mod for Half-Life. It was the first multiplayer game I'd ever played where people on a public server would actually pull together and form some semblance of teamwork. Nothing like working with a team of engineers; or seeing a medic and soldier work together on an offensive.

In recent years I'd probably say GTA (Vice City in particular) is my favorite. A lot of people here don't seem to like it, but since that was the first 'free roaming' game I'd played and since I was a kid in the 80s, the style and ability to do pretty much whatever you want really pulled me in. I could (and still occasionally do) spend hours just roaming around. I've even got the radio stations copied to MP3 and burned to CD so I can listen to them on the MP3 player in my truck.
