During the school week I usually get 4 or so hours a night, and remain relatively sane, but then I catch up on the weekends. I can't fall asleep until around 2 am for some reason (no matter what time I wake up, 2 AM is the minimum time I can fall asleep), and I wake up every morning at 6:45 for school. I usually end up asleep around 2:30-3:00.

Yeah, during the week I'm lucky if I average 4 hours of sleep a night. I'm still sane. I start to remember my dreams when I get really sleep deprived. They get really weird.

In the winter I sleep about 4-5 hours a night. In the summer it's about 3-4. I keep roughly the same hours on the weekends too.

The United States Army claims that all an adult human male needs to "thrive" is 90 minutes of sleep per day. Of course, they also claimed that C-rations were edible, so... you make the call.

Eh, that's probably pretty close to being right. As long as you can learn how to drop yourself into REM sleep right off the bat. I think an hour and a half is somewhere near the REM sleep average per eight hours.

I remember one week of college, that for some reason, my body wouldnt let me get more than 2 hours a night, and generally I was only getting 45-60 minutes per 24 hours. I would just wake up, and even though I was still really tired, I couldnt get back to sleep. Possibly it was my body rebelling over my activities of the past weekend, because I was not under any extra stress that I can think of. Anyways, this started on a Sunday, and continued for the entire week, until I hit Friday. I got progressively more pissed off at everything. Walls pissed me off, furniture... you name it. When Friday classes ended, I got myself a bottle of Jameson, some beer, and was passed out by 8PM. I woke up at 10AM the next day, and still felt frigging tired. However, that was the end of my little adventure with insomnia, and what I (and my roommates) learned was... you dont want to be near me when I have gotten very, very sleep deprived.

7 hours during weekdays. As many as possible on weekends...usually 11-13hrs. I don't know why. Maybe because I'm 17?

While I was in college (just finished in December) I'd typically -aim- for 8 hours nightly but that ended up being around 4 hours in reality after I'd get home from school and read slashdot, ICQ, watch TV, do the dishes and do that crap.

Got frustrating ;) Kept promising myself I'd start an 8 hour pattern but it never occured.. I fell asleep in almost -every- class I had or had trouble concetrating. Luckily I did my homework on the weekends with ample sleep and maintained a 4.0 GPA. Heck I wouldn't even say I slept in class, more like half dazed sort of thing...it sucked and I hated it. College was a waste of money for me :(

Right now I'm sleeping about 9-10 hours per night and I'm tired when I wake up. I think I'm oversleeping... for me, I require 8.5 hours I'd say.

I slept for about 7 hours, when I woke up, I was tired as hell. so I guess i was overslept! 7 hours is just too much for weekdays

i can live off 5hrs a night everyday, but it takes me about 2 weeks to get use to it, otherwise i end up at current schedule, which is 6-12hrs of sleep, varying daily

well... thrive...heh, i think thats probably what they found is minimum to keep you alive. from what i remember about sleep deprivation, after a while, you go into rem faster and faster, body trying to cope. course with enough sleep deprivation you start to microsleep too, and thats uncontrollable, you think you blinked, but u were out for a few minutes... or seconds. dangerous

Edison was a cat napper. He slept 20 minutes at a time.

Physically, I think after 3 days you start to get lost mentally.
