Depends on the number of players. That would probably be good for 8 or so.

As long as its a dedicated server you barely need anything to host a few people. I did 10 fine on a PII 266 w 128mb ram, till they capped my upload :(

I like playing with lots of people, so I was gonna make it for 30 people. It is gonna be a dedicated server. I will probably get another 64mb of ram. Will a k6-2 500 be good enough for a 30 people server?

30 players? I don't think so ..

what kind of internet connection does this server have

ours is on an OC3 backbone, only hosts 20 players

I don't think you could support 30 players. Depending on the speed of your connection and the specs of that computer, i would shoot for ten, TOPS. Ten stills seems to be an overestimate, since that computer is pretty much ancient by now.

At least buy another 256MB of memory, if not 512MB. 512MB will probably allow you to host 20+ people with the K6-2 500.

30 people? I'd get a PIII or a slower Athlon...

Looks like this isn't gonna happen. My sis got a new comp for christmas so she gave me her old one which is the one we've been talking about. I just wanted to do something with it instead of just letting it sit around. I don't want too spend much $$$ on it, I'd rather spend it on a GF3.

Give me some ideas what I should do with this. Should I just use it to run SETI?
