I am going to attempt to make some of my own cat5 cables to do some ugly homenetworking job in my apt. Ive made cat5 cable before but I want to know what the maximum length of cat5 cable is before you notice any kind of notice in performance. Im guessing any performance loss would be minimal in my situation but I am kind of curious. I think I will be making a 50-65ft cable to connect from my 100mbit switch to a small pc in the living room. again im sure there will be no loss in performance for my future setup but i am curious what the answer would be. thanks. (tried a search but no luck)

I recently asked a question on the forum that touched on this issue. I need to go a little over 100 meters. The general response was that the 100 meter figure is very conservative and that if you use higher quality cable, you should be able to go well over 100 meters. In other words, 50 feet or so is no problem.

100m is about 330?

Make a 400? cable, connect two computers with the cable (they can be one next to the other with the cable on the floor).

Measure the network speed.

Instead of asking you can be in a position to help.

Please post again, and tell us the result, I am curious too.
