What is the likelihood of getting 3.5GHZ out of a Q6600?

What would be the likelihood of churning out 3.5GHZ out of a Q6600 with air cooling and water cooling? I forgot to ask, how powerful of a PSU would you need to do the job, are we talking 600, 700 watts? Thanks in advance.

With air cooling, you've got less than a 0% chance of getting any B3 stepping Q6600 to 3.5 Ghz. With good water cooling, 3.5 is doable. But, with the G0 steppings, probably 50% or better of them will be able to hit 3.5 Ghz, with one of the better heatpipes.

Yup, spot on. 3.3 - 3.4GHz is often the limit on air with B3 steppings, adding an extra 100 - 200MHz with water, 3.5GHz is possible, but not guaranteed. G0 stepping would be a much better bet, you may even get close to 4GHz with water with a good chip, who knows!

People have gotten current stepping Q6600's to 3.3ghz on air. I've read that the G0 stepping will do 3.9ghz on air.

Why do you need such a high clockspeed? Apparently the dual cores are better if all you care about is high clocks.

I run phase, it doesn't seem iffy to me for my quad which is running at 3.73 GHz just fine when fully-loaded.

Not sure if Markfw900 is speaking from experience or just speaking.

What can be said with confidence is that an iffy phase-cooling system will be even more marginal and even less likely to be stable when attempting to cool a loaded quad...so don't be surprised of some folks report experience wherein their iffy pase-cooling systems don't function very well.

My Vapochill LS has never had problems handling my quad unless I do silly things like turn the fanspeed way down on the heat-exchangers to make the system run quieter...then sure I can make things go all unstable like no one's business.

Yeah, I didn't think it was iffy either. I saw a forum post on another forum board where someone got their Q6600 to pass 4.2Ghz and their E6600 to pass 4Ghz. By the sounds of it, PCC is pretty impressive.

Well, I guess Duvie freezone isn;t really phase, and thats what I was basing that one. Its way better than water, but not phase. My two are on air@3.2, and Duvie leaves his at 3.2, as otherwise I think he said it took a lot of vcore, and ran hot to get to 3.4 (not speaking for him, but from memory, he was over here and we plaed with it a lot a while back)
