What is the lifespan of notebook hard drives...

I am just curious as to what the life span of a notebook hard drive should be under normal use. Any one know this? TIA for a response.

What do you define as normal? is it sitting on a desk when its on? when its off? What temp does the bottom of the notebook get to? What brand HD?

Usually, I would guess about 2 - 4 years should be normal.

I usually have it changed within two years of active use. Not because of drive failure, but rather, the hard drive becomes a lot noisier over time with a high pitched whine. Then again, I'm a real sucker for quiet systems, especially with laptops.
