What is the issue when a laptop keyboard key doesn't print when struck?

So I've been building computers for about 15 years now. I did my first 2 laptop keyboard keys today. I had no idea what to do but I figured I'd start by removing them and make sure everything was functioning correctly. Was a major pain, but removed them, cleaned up and then reinstalled. To my dismay, after I placed them back on, my wife's S and W keys on her keyboard still no longer work. So is this a circuitry thing at this point because it still doesn't work when I can see the key is hitting the contact? Is this laptop toast or are there other things I can try? LMK.

Thanks!

Laptop keyboards wear out all the time. I've replaced hundreds of keyboards on laptops in my years. Basically the contacts under the keys die and there is no fixing that.

You can usually find brand new replacement keyboards on Ebay for $15-$30 range.

Laptop keyboard are not design to be taken apart, just get a new one.
The part number for the kb should be on the keyboard.

Thanks. This is like a 3 yr old Acer netbook (N140 or something). What would you rate the difficulty of this job if I've never done it? If the thing is getting long in the tooth, I may just sell it as I'm not quite sure $20 on Ebay and 2 hours of my time is worth it....

Usually on most netbooks it's less than a 10 minute job to replace it. Should be a piece of cake.
