In terms of performance? I'm trying to figure if my laptop has a better processor than the 955BE in my desktop. The charts I've come across in the past didn't cross-compare between mobile and desktop CPUs so I need to compare my 955BE to an Intel desktop CPU equivalent to the I7 2760QM to have a general idea.:colbert:

Thanks in advance.

The i7-2600S is probably the closest, though it will be a little faster than the 2760QM across the board. The i5-2400 will bracket it fairly closely on the other side (at least in lightly threaded tasks.) Any of the Intels will absolutely crush the 955BE, though.

The i7-2760QM is a 2.4GHz Sandy bridge.

Sandy Bridge is roughly ~10% faster per clock than Nehalem was.

That makes the 2.4GHz i7-2760QM similar to the 2.66GHz i7-920.

I know its not a perfect comparison by any means, but its not that far of either, and the i7-920 is in anandtech's benchmark database, as is the 955BE, so here you go:

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/47?vs=88

Result: The i7 wins pretty much every category, many of them by a large margin.

Thus my verdict is this, your laptop is faster than your desktop.

the 2760QM i7 also has much higher turbo speeds than the 920 i7.
