I'm getting a new Garbage disposal. I have a 1/2 HP. I was talking to someone who said 1/2 HP is the most min you want to get. Should I go higher. Is 3/4HP necessary.

dunno, i live in an apartment, 1/4 horsepower?

EDIT: if you're going to be destroying evidence.... er, large objects..... in your disposal, better go for the Briggs and Straton 5 HP gas engine model. It'll take care of all your needs ;)

I'm getting a 1/2 HP InSinkErator. I have an ISE already but it's more then 10 yrs old and when you flip the switch it makes this loud clucking noise almost like to motor is going bad. The Evolution series is the one ISE tries to get people to buy. It's essentially their standard badger series with extra insulation.

My wife's grandparents had a high-end Insinkerator, 1HP. That thing was amazing, I used to feed it carrots and celery just to watch them disappear in a second :).

Mine is turbo charged and has flashing LED's. Comes with an MP3 player, too!

I don't have one.. Septic Tank.. Mincing up a whole bunch of undissolvable materials and washing them into the tank is probably not the smartest idea for us.

Impressive. The hunk of junk the campus apartments used had trouble with banana peels.

The one that came with our house is 1/3 HP. Seemed to do fine for what we use it for. I have to go out and get a new one today and probably will just get another inexpensive one.

My wife likes to mindlessly drop crap into the disposer and run it only when she finds she can't fit anymore in - or when the water starts backing up.

Knowing I'm in the marriage for the long haul, and that I love her despite faults like this, I've decided to choose my battles and that disposer power will not be one of them. So, I have a 1HP Kitchenaid.

I don't think there is such a thing as too much HP in a garbage disposal. I throw just about any food/leftovers down it. I think the current one is 1 hp.

I didn't think they still allow that. Thought everyone is switching to biowaste collection?

I thought HP was Hit Points and expected a truly nerdy thread.

.75 Insinkerator here aswell ... its impressive, as far as a garbage disposal can be considered 'impressive' .. lol
