there was a black and white movie about Pearl Harbor.

the ending, only one plane returned and the crews had to make a lot of sacrifices on the way home....., America saw them as heroes.

it was ... absolutely awesome... I don't have the name, but you know what I mean guys!?

Yeah, that. I love Spitfires.

Midway might've been as good if they'd ditched the dumb love story part.

edit: just want to add Bridges of Toko-Ri, since it hasn't been mentioned.

Memphis Bell is really the only that comes to mind that was about true life war fare.

Memphis Bell again here.

Pearl harbour was insulting.
Top gun was way too homo-erotic.
Hot shots was good, but slightly innacurate: "I'll have a hamburger!"

Midway... greast movie.

It also reflected that the day of the battleship was over and battles as sea would take place without the ships ever seeing eachother.

Yeah, I loved it for the fact that an American fighter pilot single handedly won the Battle of Britain, the single handedly fought off the Japs at Pearl Harbor and then became a bomber pilot so he could (almost) single handedly bomb Tokyo.

It wasn't quite over as the navies only had so many carriers to use at the time. The USN and IJN slugged it out the old fashoned way a number of places, the most notable being the series of battles over Guadalcanal and and Leyte Gulf.
