What is the formula to find the volume of a container with tapered sides?

ie:

I have a pan that is 5.75"L x 3.25"W x 2" tall, but it taperes down to 4.90" X 2.5" at the bottom. It's height * (base1 + base2) / 2 right? lol

Also, I want to fill it with somethig to a depth of 1" starting at a height of 1/2" off the bottom. How much of said substance would I need?

I suck at teh mathz0rz

however, here is a java applet. although i'm not very sure what it does coz i'm not wearing lenses, but the figures look promising
Cool... although it looks like it's only for cylinders, cones and spheres... my container is more of a trapezoid.

I'm more interested in how to figure out the 2nd calculation..

I suppose I could try to measure it 1/2" off the botom and use the standard trapezoid formula, seems like there should be an easier way though.
