I have an Intel 440BX AGPset. I don't want to change my motherboard. I was wondering what the best chip I can use on my system is, or how I can find out. Right now I have a Pentium III 700Mhz. Is it ever possible to use AMD processors with Intel chipsets?
You need to find out the make and model of your board and then go to the manufacturer's website to find out the best chip you can put in it. Sorry, AMD CPUs won't work in BX boards.
depending on your board, you may be able to use a 1.4GHz celeron with a powerleap adapter!
not a cheap option but you did say you wanted to keep your board!
Is there a way to find out what motherboard I have without opening the case? If I do have to open the case, what should I look for on the motherboard? I'm guessing there's not a big sign that says "your motherboard is a ..." My Dell Reference manual didn't say what motherboard I have- neither did the website. :/
If you have a dell, you have an intel motherboard. Probably the best you could hope for is 1ghz, on a 100mhz bus. It's doubtful you would notice much of a difference. Other than your wallet being lighter.
