Hey. I am wondering what the fastest CPU is that I can get for my MSI K7T. I don't know the exact model if that isn't enough info but I can dig up the box around the house if you need more information.

I am really happy with my MB, RAM, and video card so I just want to spend as little as possible to get some better performance.

Thanks. I tried to find an article that might tell me but none of them seemed to leap out at me as addressing this question.

Dig up the box. There are a very large number of models that start with K7T.

Have you tried the MSI website? They should tell you the max CPU you can use. (The site is not loading for me at the moment...)

Some days I just feel like a nitwit - I cannot find the manual for the MB. Is it written on the board or is their a utility which would tell me?

Unless it doesn't have support for the Morgan core.. then you'll be stuck at a 200 FSB 1.4 TBird :D

Yes, both the model number and any revision should be somewhere on the board. Somtimes it can be hard to see when it's packed into a case with everything attached, but it should be there.

1.3GHz Duron ran fine on my rev1.0 K7T PRO. :D

I have a K7T Turbo - that is about all I saw on the MB which told me anything. There were no other numbers/letters which made much sense.

I used to have that MB.
I ran a Palo 1600+ on it.

I think it can support up to a T-Bred 1800+

The K7T Turbo2's can take all the way up to a 2400+

If it is a K7T Turbo (with green PCB), I believe it can support up to a XP1800+ Palomino. Not sure if it can support the Thoroughbreds or not. Mine runs fine with the XP1700+ Palomino core. If it has the red PCB, it is probably a K7T Turbo2 and should support up to an XP2600+ T-Bred and all Palominos, if you have the latest BIOS. Check it out here
