Hitachi has the fastest seek time (and the 7k250 used to trail just behind in transfer rates)
Seagate is fast! But the Latest Samsung now has the fastest transfer rates.

The Up coming Hitachi drive should blow all the others out of the water. Currently their latest offering is the t7k250

Dude, why cant you just go look at the latest anandtech benchmarks. They will tell you all you need to know. It aint hard 'cause well all did it and thats how we know.

seagate is fast reliable and quite along with a 5 year warranty.

Seagate drives are slowest on the market, and it isn't really close. Maxtor currently takes the overall speed crown, while Hitachi will be faster is some situations.

There is no one overall faster drive. Each excels in different types of computing environments.

Generally speaking however, the fastest 7,200 RPM SATA drives are the Maxtor Diamondmax 10 drives with 16Mb buffer, and the Hitachi 7K80 and T7k250 SATA II drives.

The Hitachi 7K series drives can be had for < $100 for the 80Gb and 160Gb versions whereas the Maxtor drives start at $130 for the 200Gb drives and go up from there.

Hitachi has just revised the 7k250 line and changed the platter size from 100gb per platter to 125gb per platter and cut the number of platters from 3 to 2, the new drive is called T7k250. As a result there is a nice 10% boost in read speed. You can get a 250gb ATA 133 version for $98

Oh, and it is now avalable in SATA II (T-7k250) vs the old one was SATA I and ATA100
