I like using the slot loader over a tray loader. Also, floppies are slot load, Zip drives are slot load, flash card readers are slot load; so why the heck not have a slot load CD/DVD drive?

because a cd doesn't necessarily come in the expected size. how do you put a mini-cd or shirt-pocket cd into a slot loader drive?

Ok, WTF, how many freakin' people use mini-cds? For the small group of people that buy mini-cds, get a tray loading drive. For all others, slot loading is fine. I've have just about every Pioneer slot loading DVD drive and they've ALL been great. If I could, I'd get all my optical drives slot loading. Trays suck.

Most in-dash CD players in automobiles are either slot-loaders or cartridge-loaded CD changers which can't take mini/pocket CDs either... You don't hear motorists bitch about it though.

Pretty soon we won't even need CD players in cars anymore-- Auto makers like Mercedes, BMW, Volvo, etc. are going to include the option to allow an Apple Ipod to be hooked up to the car stereo system (and allows the car stereo control panel to control the IPod too). That'd be cool..

Come to think of it, all the recent Apple laptops use slot-loaders too... You don't hear Macsters bitching about it either.

.bh.

I did not know that; good to know that they've got some protective measure in there.
