What is the easiest way to transfer VHS to DVD?

A neighbor bought this and can not get it to work. They can get video but not audio with RCA and S-video.

Is there a better devise that I can recomend for $100.00?

I have one of these and have been using it. Works like a charm, no frills, simple DVD burning. More than $100 but worth it.

I have an Insignia DVD Recorder/VCR that I bought a few months ago for $150 from Best Buy.
