What is the differences of ipod from one generation to the other?

Hi,

I'm a little new to ipod *sigh. I am still confused between the differences when it comes to generation? What is the difference between 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th? Is there any 5th generation coming up?

I know there are many experts out there that can help me with this .

The generations refer to when it was designed. 1st gen was 1999 or so? i forget. In any case the update the design every few years and make it better. DOn;t get anything other than a 4th gen. the 1st and 2nd gens suck, and the 3rd gen is OK but the battery doesn't last long. The 4th gen, though has the click-wheel and now they all come with a color screen. If you want to save some $, you should be able to find a B&W 4th gen online for cheap

Yeah I agree... I have a 3g iPod and it is pretty awesome in my opinion... so the 4g is probably even better
