what is the difference in 7200.10 and 7200.9 HDD from Seagate?

7200.10 have 16MB of cache, 7200.9s have 8MB.

Regardless of what technology is used (everybody's all gung-ho on the perpendicular recording buzzword) - uh well the cache doubled too so that might also have something to do with the increase in performance. Anyway, the 7200.10s are faster and they're only slightly more expensive ($15 on the 250GB model). So, like, buy the faster drive. Personally, I think the 320Gb for under $100 is the sweet spot. And I have 2 of them to prove it.

It's all about the cache. 16MB does make a difference.

There were 7200.9 drives with 16mb cache. I have one.

Nobody really knows about the relative reliability, since the 7200.10 is a new design (heads and circuitry, at least).
