What is the difference between these processors?

Clock speed? One is 2.4GHz the other 2.8GHz?

I don't think it will work on that chipset though. Intel 845 chipset supports 400FSB only. Do you have a different revision of it though?

Jon is right, the only difference is clock speed.

Good point there as well, if your motherboard is 845e you can use 533MHz fsb chips but if it's any other version of the 845 chipset you are stuck with the 400MHz fsb processors. There are a few available from Directron here.

Otherwise, look on eBay or else admit that it's time for a complete system upgrade (which really isn't that expensive these days--$200 will buy you a good motherboard, dual core processor, 2GB memory, and a power supply to run it all).

That's a stretch, care to piece together that $200 system? Perhaps at Fry's on BF, otherwise?

Okay, I'm eating crow now, I had C2D on the brain and you went AM2. Got me. Tasty hot dog too, to drown the crow. :)

I already have a 533MHz D845 motherboard and do not want to reinstall windows. I am also considering picking this up on ebay for much less.

I already have a 1KW-SR and I will need a new graphics card as well. The 8800GT is out of stock, ATi has yet to respond, DDR2 may be on it's way out, DDR3 is too expensive, Intel is just months away from new CPUs; so it's my conclusion that now is not the best time to buy as we are now in the middle of a transition period. You must also factor in my Windows OEM disc will be useless and buying a new XP disc at a time when MS is in the process of elminiating support in favor of a less capable Vista gives me another great reason to wait and just get a small upgrade for my still capable existing system.

Certain varieties of 845 support 400Mhz and 533MHz.

Like I said, do you have a different revision? The 845E would be just that. The standard 845 chipset only supports 400MHz FSB.

I had a mobo from QDI, that had an 8454PE chipset, and supported overclocking it to a 200Mhz (800Mhz QDR) FSB speed.

Ah, so you'll be fine then. Those CPUs are not worth as much as NewEgg is charging for them. I'd buy them from a reputable Ebay seller instead.
