What is the difference between SET protocol and SSL?

I understand both offer security on the internet but what are the differences?

Also any advantages/disadvantages over each other?

I'm not sure about the SET protocol, but SSL is simply Secure Socket Layered encription. the data tranmitted is encripted to keep the data more secure, the more difficult the cypher the longer it would take someone to crack, the point being to make the cyphers take soo long to crack that it isn't worth the effort.
