Ok this may be a stupid question but I don't know the difference.

Ok, they both are optical, they both have the side buttons, the explorer is just in a different color.

If there is a difference please tell me what it is and which one is a better buy the optical or the explorer?

Thanks :)

Optical: Smaller, ambidexterous (symmetrical)

Explorer: Bigger, right-handed, both thumb buttons on left side, Firestone tires

I found the Explorer to be too big. Got the Optical. Very nice.

explorer is bigger, but I find it to fit my had just right. I have only had mine for a week or so. I don't know how I survived without those two extra thumb buttons. I use mine for web navigation (forward, back) and I love it.
