What is the difference between K7 and K8?

What is the difference between a K7 and K8 amd processor? Is the AMD 2600+ (333 hz version) a K7 or a K8 processor? I'm wondering because this is my first attempt to build a computer and want to select the right processor to go with the right heat sink (and correct installation procedure). Any help would be appreciated.

All Athlons on the market currently are the K7. The K8 is the next-generation 64-bit Hammer processors which won't be available for several months at least.
