what is the difference between h61 and z77 chipset?

H61 =10 usb2, 4 sata2.
Z77= 10 usb2, 4 usb3, 4 sata2, 2 sata6, allows overclocking.

Additionally, a 6-series chipset may not support an Ivy Bridge CPU without a BIOS flash. In other words, you might need to beg, borrow, or buy a Sandy Bridge, use it to flash the BIOS, and then swap in the Ivy. If it's a new board, the BIOS should support the Ivy, but it's hard to be 100% sure.

if you don't plan on overclocking and want to save some money go with B75, every b75 board have ivy bridge bios, usb 3.0 and 1 sata III port...

but H61 should perform the same as anything in terms of CPU, gaming

The bios brings up a good point. If buying used, this is certainly a possibility. If buying new, at this point the inventory levels should have been rotated enough to prevent this. Ivy bridge has been out for a bit.

Some H61 boards seem pretty stripped down. The board I had pass through my hands (can't remember the model) only had a VGA connector, and 3 audio jacks. No HDMI, Display Port, or surround sound. So just be careful which one you choose.
