I'm trying to buy parts for a 2003 Toyota Echo. When I search for the Monroe strut mount I get results for both 904988 (Type A) and 905900 (Type B). Both are for the front. What's the difference and which should I buy? Is one left side of the car and one right side or something?

It's weird. Both the Monroe website and Rock Auto show the same two Type A and Type B results. I'm hoping to buy via Amazon (they carry both types) to get the Prime shipping.

no details or pictures from either?

Normally one would assume its a sports suspension or a base. But an ehco.... that might not be exactly true.

just looked up on rockauto, why not match the part number on stock? This could be a bigger mount for a sedan/coupe model. the type A fits scion models as well VS type B is only a echo. Seeing as how Raybesto and KYB has only one, i would be willing to stay it works either way or just get another brand but thats just me.

i'm not a super big fan of monroe.

Not much info available. Here's what Rock Auto's site says:

Type A Only Fits OE PN[48609-52011/48609-52050]
Type B Only Fits OE PN[48609-52021]

I tried looking up those Toyota PNs, and didn't get anywhere useful. The Rock Auto site does say that Type A is used on both 2000-2005 Echo along with 2004-2006 Scions, while the Type B is only used on the 2000-2005 Echo.

Edit: That's a good point about sedan/coupe...could be the difference. My Echo is a sedan so I'm leaning toward getting the Type A mounts. What do you mean by "match the part number on stock"?

See if you can find a part number on the one installed in your car.

see if you can read the part numbers off your original (stock mounts).

I assume they are still on the car, open the hood and see if you see it from the top. If not jack up the front end and look from the bottom. The body could be blocking the number but still i would check if it worries you too much.

I would go with the ones that fit the scions... no real logic behind it just a guess.

When I swapped my struts and springs in my echo the top hats looked the same... the bolt layout is "keyed" to only go in one direction, but I don't remember the hats themselves being any different.

No part # under the hood, and no time to jack up the car. Seems like just ordering two of the Type A is the best bet. Thanks for the ideas guys.

Might not hurt to just speak with a dealer or someone else for a 2nd opinion.
Traditionally the mounts are the same, but you never know.
