Thread title says it all. I was confused about this in another thread and I need ATOT to please come to my aid and define this for me.

A nerd is a (generally) socially awkward person who has a few obsessions that they know way too much about.

A geek is more of a well-rounded nerd. Basically someone who has more of a breadth of knowledge, is less pedantic, more outgoing but nevertheless interested in more intellectual topics.

Knowing how to write code, create mobile apps, playing video games is all socially acceptable. Memorizing the Klingon dictionary or getting Star Wars tattoos is more of a nerd thing to do.

Either way, sixone loves both and has been known to fantasize about geeks and nerds falling from the sky then piling them up and rolling around in them as if they were fall leaves. :)

Today they are used almost interchangeably, however nerd seems to carry more of a negative connotation.
