Depends on what year and what model.

Usually, GMC's are more "plush" and have more options. The underpinngs are extreamly close, but in come instances the GMC's have beefed parts.

Is there any? The cars look the same.

funny, I didn't think GMC made cars

 OK OK, trucks.

I meant the later models. Chevy Suburban and GMC '????' looks identical.
So it's basically a 'high-end' Chevy?

i'd say theyre the same quality.. only difference is the badge, maybe some interior, maybe the grille, taillights.. stuff like that.

If GM was "high end" you think it would cost more than chevy, no?

Different mudflaps (if any) and exterior badges.

GMC's "Professional Grade" seems ludicrous to me. Similar to a comprably equipped Chevy, just more $ and similar build quality and most of the parts come from the same bin.

Look at it this way. ATOT's resident truck guy LAUST bought Chevy. If he thought GMC was better, he probably woulda bought GMC.

GMC is Professional Grade. :p

Like the old Avia sneaker commercials: "If you aren't an athlete, we don't want you wearing our sneakers." Hmmm, whatever happened to Avia? Too much customer alienation?

Chevy has two more letters than GMC, so any differences in weight are accounted for by the extra plastic needed to mold the names.

Some GMC's do have beefier parts though. One was my 87 Jimmy. I ended up cracking the passenger sidel lower control arm on a nice big rock, and went to get a replacement. The parts guy said GMC = Chevy and sold me a Chevy control arm. I can tell you that it bolted up just fine, but when you compaied them, the GMC part was a good 50% heavier and looked beefier. I returned the part, and got the GMC one and smacked the parts guy over the head :)

The new GMC's come standard with things that are "options" on Chevy, but it is built in the price. Frankly, I am unsure as to weather the new GMC's have beefier parts, but I would assume so. They seem to be "stiffer" than the chevy equivelents. Kinda like the difference between the new 1500 dodge, and the one just before it. Perhaps the new GMC's have extra cross members in the frame or something.

The same difference that exists between certain Buick, Pontiac, and Oldsmobile models, or between a couple Chevy and Pontiac models (Cavalier = Sunbird, Camaro = Firebird).

Same truck, a few cosmetic differences, different badges, maybe a different engine or transmission package...but 90% the same truck.

If you are looking for speciality trucks like the C3 now Sierra Denali GMC only has that available, as far as drivetrain we share the exact same parts (LM7 LQ4 4L85-E 4L60-E NP246, etc etc), the front clips are about all thats different on the body (different front Fenders, Hood and Grill) I have a Chevy cause I was able to get an awesome deal on my truck (Fully loaded Z71 excab LS for $28,000 with all taxes included)

If I was to to get a new HD I would get a GMC only for 2 minor reason's, the bigger one being, GM I love their trucks and I like their V8 cars like the Vette, but I would NEVER own a non V8 GM car. This leads to the reason of GMC with not producing the cars Chevy does if you ever have to get service done for a recall or a defective part under warranty you don't have to sit in a line with them, when GM did a recall on the brakes on the new truck (Turned out it was just some stupid ABS warning STICKERS!!) the line to get into the Chevy dealership (Jerry Roth) was huge, Don Massey GMC was all oil changes..

The second reason on the HD's is I hate that new Chevy hood, it looks like a bug deflector is built into it hood.
