What is the default gamma value of a monitor?

For some reason I feel that my monitor is not all that bright...........How do I check/find out if my monitor is showing all the colors in the correct way?.......I kinda think my monitor is dark but I'm not sure.........the gamma value in the nvidia panel shows 1.0

I'm not sure if monitors have a gamma value. I suppose they must but I'm not sure if it's called the gamma value.

Change the gamma setting in your video card if you wanna change your gamma.

Sounds right to me. all monitors have gamma and it varies depending on the CRT used. MOst monitors ave gamma values between 1-3
If your monitor is dark, it may simply be that it is old an the phosphors, and the cathode of the electron gun have degraded.
