what is the deal with fan controllers for cases? are they worth getting?

Most here will probably say an emphatic YES. Me, I just use SpeedFan. I had a Hardcano (TT) and while it was nice and looked cool, I just prefer software fan control. Maybe I'm lazy lol, but SF does everything for you so no knobs, no forgetting to turn them up, etc.... Also, w/ a controller, and this might not pertain to you, some have temp probes (usually 4) and all fans must be connected to the rear of the controller. It can really make for a messy case, or if you decide to hide all the wires, can make for a very tedious wire management job. Just my experience. Are you looking to quiet your pc?

There are alot of solid real nice quality fan speed controllers on the market!
I am curently using the Zalman Multi fan speed controller!!
Yes a little bit of Dan`s love of peace and quiet is rubbing off on me!!
I love my zalman and let me tell you it also looks real nice on a black case.
especially the dark dark dark almost black dront panel!!

Just go to NewEgg and check....there are many many fan speed controllers...

NOT looking to controll noise, that doesn't bother me at all. i think people make to much of a fuss over that. i would rather my case be cool and live longer then be quiet and die sooner on me. i would like the part where it manages the cables, i have the power connectors for the fans going every which way but loose!! 🙂

do they make extensions for the power cords on the fans. how do you get them to cd-rom bay from the bottom of case?

you need to start scouring places like NewEgg and other online stores...

YES they do make extensions!!🙂

I got a sweet ThermalTake fan controller from Xoxide.com for about $13, and they got it here in 3 days.

If you don't care about noise, then there's no reason whatsoever to get a fan controller. In my opinion, however, every case that I have come across has had fans that were far too loud to use "as-is" so I always rig up some way to control fan speeds. You don't necessarily need an external bay either; I get by with using the fan-only connectors on my psu, a zalman fanmate 1, and my BIOS to lower fan speeds.

I think you should look for light controllers. Leave the fans alone. Since if you forgot to turn them up you may fry your PC 😉 but on the other hand you can have fun without the worry. I think we all have alot of worry alreay 🙁
