What is the closest someone has come to leading the league in batting average, homeruns, RBI's, runs, and hits?

THat's good but he's not gonna lead in majors. Ichiro is gonna pwn him in hits.

Except that Ichiro is in the other league. But I agree with you there.

I'm sure Babe Ruth has done that. I think quadrupple crown is possible (rbi, runs, avg, home runs) both A-rod and Derek Lee are close to it. However, leading the league in hits as well is impossible since if you're a home run hitter you'll be walked a lot and hence won't get as many chances to hit as guys like Ichiro, Jeter, etc.

These players achieved "Quadruple Crown" status (each won the Triple Crown and also led the league in runs). As it turns out, the last 6 Triple Crown winners all led the league in runs as well as leading in BA/HR/RBI.

1901 Nap Lajoie, A's
1909 Ty Cobb, Tigers
1922 Rogers Hornsby, Cardinals
1937 Joe Medwick, Cardinals
1942 and 1947 Ted Williams, Red Sox
1956 Mickey Mantle, Yankees
1966 Frank Robinson, Orioles
1967 Carl Yastrzemski, Red Sox

I don't think anyone has ever led in all five categories (BA/HR/RBI/Runs/Hits) in the same year.
