Some stores offer student software but that is all I have seen. The prices on these "Student" versions aren't really much of a savings either.

See, I haven't heard of anything like that for high school students. :( There is no way in Hell I'm paying $600.

Well that's what it costs. So either pay that, find it cheaper somewhere else (legit), or don't use the software. :)

Of course. No more legal than warez. (The spam ads for "european import" software are also selling illegal versions.)

Yes, it is. You can search online for Academic software. There are plenty of vendors out there. All you should need is a copy of a student ID card. If they won't sell the a high school student, ask a teacher. I know that teachers are eligible to purchase it. There is also membership in the Microsoft Action Pack
here. It will cost you about $300, but you get a ton of software.

amdfanboy, why the hell do you need 2k3 server? it has nothing you would ever want to use it for. are you going to setup your own personal exchange server, or have a private home network and run a database for how many times you jerk it per day? no, so they dont expect you to pay $600, only businesses or people with more money than brains. go buy windows xp and suck your thumb.
