Sprint has better coverage than AT&T and is second only to Verizon.
Do you have a reference for that assertion?
Consumer Reports ranked Sprint worst of the top 4 carriers in terms of network coverage in major metropolitan areas nationwide. Out of the 26 metropolitan areas surveyed, Sprint was last in all but two - specifically in Miami and San Francisco - where Sprint was 3rd of 4, but for the other 24 Sprint was worst. This was based on a nationwide survey of 51,740 subscribers in Sept. 2008. Beyond the CR survey, every other survey that I have read shows Sprint last in terms of network coverage as well.

For what it's worth, I don't have an axe to grind against Sprint. Several surveys show it has the fastest network data speeds overall and it is cheaper than the other carriers - particularly the lucky souls on SERO. But someone has to be last in rankings, and the ones that I've seen show Sprint in last place for coverage.
