What is the "CD-Text" feature for on CD Burners?

I've seen a lot of cd burners with this feature called CD-Text.

I am thinking about buying a Lite-On 12x10x32 CD-RW drive.

According to the Nero supported drives page, this burner does not have support for reading or writing CD-Text.

I've never used CD-text before, so can someone tell me what it is used for?

cd text is for audio cd's so they can display artist and track name in cd players that support cdtext
