What is the blackest black paint?

I posted about spray painting my DVD-ROM drive to match my Antec TX640B awhile back. Well, I finally went out and bought some flat black spray paint for plastic and tested it on a dead drive. It pretty much gave it that black color that looks really black until you hold it up to something that is REALLY black like many of Antec's cases. Has anyone ever found a black that comes close to matching the REALLY black cases out there?

I'm not sure, but if it's latex based paint, the shade is probably called, Vinyl Frontier.

I'm looking for people to say, "Oh yeah that x brand of paint in x color made a pretty good match with my x brand x model case." If it's been done before, I'd rather find out through previous experiences rather than buying several cans of spray paint. I tried to do this with a "Has anyone bought a DVD-ROM drive that matches this case?" post before and I didn't really get any responses (btw, if anyone still has an answer to that, I'm all ears).

If I want my case to look professional, I guess I have to go with a Dell. If I want maximum upgradeability, then I guess I have to build my own. Of course, the best solution would be to have a professional-looking PC that I built myself ;)

Where do you go for that sort of thing? And how much does that cost? I really don't feel like getting laughed out of a hardware store when I show them the 5.25" drive cover I'm trying to match. And then is it still possible to get it in a spray form? And could you get paint that's made for use on plastic?

I'm suspecting that for the money and effort, I would be better off trying to find a drive that matches. Anyone have a really dark black DVD burner that performs as well or better than the NEC ND-3540A? I suspect the black color on this case is no different that the deep black color found on many other Antec cases.

A top-end burner is $30. Some come with both ivory and black face plates or a face plate alone can be had for $5-ish while a can of paint is $6-8 before the messin' and colour matching. If you must, then something like Krylon Satin or Semi-Flat black should do it. They have a "Fusion" line meant specifically for plastic but it's prolly not strictly necessary if a better match can be had with the regular schtuff - I've used the regular schtuff on both metal and plastic and am not sure but think it was the Semi-Flat.

I bought some spray paint from home depot to paint my bezel for my card reader. It's flat black. I think it's Krylon. It's good quality stuff.

Sherwin Williams does it... not sure about other places. I would just call around your local shops that sell paint and ask if they provide paint-matching services. Might be better to find a drive that matches, as you said.

edited to add: I'm not sure about the cost. I wouldn't expect it to be much over the actual price of the paint, but I'm not certain.

I know from experience that the paint matching that Home Depot does, leaves alot to be desired. To get an exact match is as much of an art as it is a science.

Sherwin-Williams may color match, but their paint is house paint (mostly latex & some enamals). I don't believe they color match spray paints though.

I used the same paint on a dvd drive once, and it's darker than my black floppy. It matched my case perfectly.

Which black did you use, flat, satin, or gloss? Which cases did it match?

By the way, here was the response I got from Antec on the matter:
"My suggestion would be to try an automotive store. They have deeper paints. I would even suggest trying something called 'Chassis Black' which is for underbody and the engine compartment. It is a nice deep black and not high gloss."

I only wonder whether paint for such heavy-duty use will damage a plastic part.

No, the kind of paint makes absolutely no difference. It only covers the plastic. And Lite-On and Plextor both seem to make darker black drives than the other companies.
