What is the biggest download you've done on a 56k modem and how long did it take.

Friday night I started a download of a Mandrake ISO (630MB I think), and I left for Friday and Saturday night, sunday when I got home it was still going. It was done when I got up monday morning.

So what's that...48 hours from Friday-Sunday evenings...+ a few extra over night.

Thank god for cable....

Man, you people are tame! My largest downloads are DivX movies which are just shy of 700MB. I have no problem pulling 400MB down a day and I probably average over 300MB. I'm connected @ 45.2 24/7 and always have Getright running in the background downloading something.

downloaded mandrake 7.2 ISO
took a real long time :D

anyway it would have been quicker if my ISP had not disconnected me 2 times

just finished downloaded Linux Mandrake 8, both install and extension CD (checking the checksum of the extended CD right now, I'm praying to GOD that it's good!).. I started on I think Wednesday last week in the evening..

however, I used the net, and I only connected up to 37000 bps during that period.

btw, that's 1.2 gigs..

EDIT! DOH! looks like the checksum is off.. looks like another 3 days of downloading for me.

a 550MB Divx movie and it has taken 7 day and nights. Connect at 24Kb and d/l at exactly 2.36KB/s max and it going down from there. Longest session with my crap isp is 10 hours(if i'm lucky). connecting at 24kb as I type this now.

The next target will be an 1.5 GB divx which will take weeks:(

dial-up...never again!!! (hopefully...). i really didn't use dial-up with the exception of a few random occasions, ecxept of course at friends houses. i went from a fast college connection to a cable connection at home. for all of you who are bandwidth deprived, i'd be willing to download and burn anything (no illegal warez, etc...) and send it to you for the cost of a cd and shipping...

I have already used my 56k modem to download the 2 ISO files needed for some Linux installs. The first is almost always 650MB, while the second was anywhere from 300-630MB. Downloading both of them would take a week or two, as I could only download at night - we only had 1 phone line. Of course, sometimes it would surge to 12KB/sec for an hour or two at a time. This was not only reported by Getright, but I also timed the incoming bytes. Don't know how it did that, but I didn't complain. :)

Why you wusses. [old man speak]Back in my college days all we had was a 28.8, and loads O' free porn. Between my roomate and I (we worked opposite shifts) we had that dadburn machine dialed up and downloadin for days at a time. Why we went 4.5 days one time without diconnecting. [/old man speak]
