what is the best wireless router for torrent connections

i had a belkin and it worked ok but it needed to be reseted ever so often. are there other routers that work better for torrents? something that is around 100.00.

right now i am using a compact linksys. its ok but the wireless range is very limited.

Downloading torrents wirelessly...

Good luck with that. It's stressing your wireless to the max having that constant download and of course it's going to have to be restarted.

D-Link's "Gaming Router" the DGL-4300 seems to be the winner. Tom's Hardware Benchmark

Second best in "Maximum Simultaneous Connections" which is the closest thing to bittorrent traffic you'll likely see benched. I know the DGL-4300 is about 129.99. It seems like a good router that i've heard quite a bit about. If i didn't have a seperate dedicated one it would be the likley candidate for me. It has built in gigabit ethernet with a simplistic QoS intergrated which will likely help any simutaneous use of your connection, when your surfing the net, or playing games and using bittorrent.

Wow, all of those devices seem underpowered.

No, the DGL-4300/DGL-4100 do not.

Edit: However the routing and GbE switch performance are good, and in some cases the performance gain from jumbo packets is next to nil.

Isn't Smoothwall Linux just a PC + Linux? 😛

Yes, it's a firewall distro that is generally regarded as the suck. Use m0n0wall, pfsense (beta, based on m0n0), or ipcop.

Also if you feel like running a firewall box try Astaro. Really slick interface that is easy to use. Plus it has lots of features and the Home license can sustain 32,000 connections with IPS and SPI (hardware permitting).

Oh yeah, I have a friend who uses an Astaro at work and he loves it, and from what I've seen it's worth looking at. I've also heard great things about ClarkConnect. Even though those are free for home use type licenced, IIRC, personally I still like to stick to the F/OSS solutions.

I fried my d-link usb module using it to download massive bit torrent files wirelessely. Expect to have massive problems with your cheap crappy wireless devices if you use a wireless network downloading torrent files.
My d-link router still survived though

I use the d-link gaming router, works fine for me. downloading torrents should be left for LAN anyways. Don't think it was meant for wireless. Maybe someday....maybe.

DGL-4300

Are you aware that in most cases supporting a poster in heavy torrent issues, probably puts the helper in the category of; Helping Abetting, and being an accessory to?..

Yeah, in some cases. But with Blizzard using torrents to distribute patches and more companies using it to distribute demo/trailers/content/etc, torrents do have a legitimate use.
