I am thinking of trying to put together a gaming news site, and I was wondering which software is the best web software available. I have heard that Dreamweaver is good..

Also, which is the best free web software?

I am a newbie at web design, so if anyone has any good how-to guides or links to guides, please post them! I don't really know where to start!

Thanks!

You can always try Frontpage that comes with the Office suite. I think for a beginner, that's better, and then you can move onto dreamweaver for more robust options.

Yeah I was thinking of Frontpage2000 because I already own it. The only negative thing I have heard about Frontpage is that you can't do a lot graphically with it, like it is very plain...is that true?

if you are a newbie at web design i suggest you understand html before you let a program write it for you. i think its fine if you understand code and let a program write it for you but too many people dont know what the program is writing. if the program writes code a certain way and you dont like it...you wont know how to fix it. http://hotwired.lycos.com/webmonkey/authoring/html_basics/ Go here and learn some stuff. After that, knock yourself out with Front Page or Dreamweaver. They're both great products.

I'm with Fobside on learning the basics.

But for reasons of argument. Say you really know your stuff (HTML) it won't really matter which editor you use in the end. It's just a matter of which one you feel comfortable with.

Frontpage in my honest opinion is the easiest for you, yes Dreamweaver may be more robust and has more features (especially Dreamweaver Ultradev) but it's got a steeper learning curve.

As for "being more graphical" they're basically the same and there's hardly any difference between the two. In the end it's all about your skills and which tool you're more comfortable using.
