FTP is the belleding edge geek-hardon method used by all, but used exclusively by a lame few.

Dreamweaver is a wonderful tool.

ssuming you mean design web pages, there are quite a few choices. Dispite what anyone says, there is no 1 correct choice for all instances.

I prefer jEdit, along with Macromedia Studios as a decent set. Frontpage is pretty crappy IMHO, but is extreamly easy.

no way.

if you know HTML, just get a regular editor. i used to use allaire's homesite which enabled me to make changes (color-coded and all) and view them on the click of a button (it opened a browser in a new window).

now, i barely do web design, but when i do, i use notepad.

Notepad if possible so you can get "clean" code.

If time's a factor, flash is easy (but ghetto), but you should also try Adobe GoLive (and MS Frontpage if need be, but be sure to take out the MS-inserted tags), and Dreamweaver is still a good way to go of course.

anyone concerned with standards compliance or clean code in general would throw up at the code frontpage generates :D

i love these threads, mainly for the notepad replies.

notepad sucks
i'm all for hardcoding...but notepad sucks for coding

i use zend and homesite

Apparently the "pretty crappy" comment was skipped over? I guess I should have put it at the end of the sentance :p

I have Dreamweaver and GoLive and I prefer Dreamweaver. My penis is small so I can't code into Notepad so I use Dreamweaver (although I don't really know how to use it very well :p).

Textpad > notepad (better search and replace, supports IDE style color coding :D)

Notepad + Visual Studio + DreamWeaver

They only three programs you'll ever need. I really only use DreamWeaver for the color coding and easy find/replace functions, so I could do without it too.

Anybody here actually USE Frontpage 2003?

Yes, I'll grant, FP 97 and 2000 were pretty godawful for the pure crap-code generation.

And gods help you if you export a document from MS Word to HTML and try to make use of it ANYWHERE...

But Frontpage 2003 really ain't that bad. I've gone over the code it generated on my current website pretty closely and can't find any areas I could improve on it in.

FP 2003 is actually really, REALLY nice. And, oddly, it's really nothing like any of the others at all - almost like it was done by a completely seperate dev team.

In any case, that's a perfectly workable option.

i would say dreamweaver. its quite easy to use and keeps your code organized. But you could always go old school and use notepad!

But it's not wysiwyg, it's for hard-coding.

I liked Textpad, but my trial expired and I didn't want to use it illegally, and I didn't like it well enough to pay for it when I could use notepad. I'll give Arachnophilia a shot. Thanks.

i used frontpage 2003 for a little bit just to see if they've improved it, but i'm back to a combination of textpad and visual studio, and i use them purely as color syntax text editors.
