I tried to search for info regarding this and came up with nothing.
What is the best way to ship a cpu so that its pins are protected? It is just the chip itself, no HSF. I don't have the box/retainer that the cpu comes in.

It will be going in a bigger box with a motherboard.
Thanks.

edit: Should I just leave it in the cpu slot in the motherboard? Seems pretty secure, but I'm not sure. Suggestions please.

I usually put it in one of the clam shell cases that another cpu came in and then wrap that in bubble wrap.

I would either leave in the socket or stick the cpu pins in a square of styrofoam and then wrap it in an anti-static bag

In the Mobo socket is one of the best places, besides the original packaging.

Yea the sockets secure. Somone actually sawed off the piece of the motherboard that a pentium PRO was in and shipped the cpu still in the socket. It was fine, and i have a small piece of pentium pro mobo too :p

Out of curiousity, can I ship an AMD CPU in the retail box? Do I need to re-wrap it to give it some shock absorbtion?
