What is the best way to remove thermal compound?

Use a lint-free cloth that is slightly dampened and rub off..make sure to use alcohol too.

For the silver grease, I use a dab of Dawn dish detergent, rinse and THOROUGHLY dry the processor. Gets off most of the fine stuff. (It' grease, ain't it/)
