what is the best way to purchase a used vehicle? Poll!!

I dont' want to give cash, so I told the guy I'll write a check, but he siad he has to wait for it to clear. However, I want a transfer of the motorcycle to me as soon as I hand him the check. Maybe I'm just being paranoid?
