What is the best way to orient two antennas on a wireless router?

What do you think? I have a wireless router w/ two antennas. My friend thinks the better way is to orient the antennas similarly (both pointing up). Personally, I think it's better to orient them at different angles (one pointing up and the other sideways or something like that) since the router chooses the best signal of the two antennas.

Anybody have any experience or knowledge with this?

Well on my Linksys wrt54g router it works best if I point one straight up and the other horizontal. But your environment might dictate something else. Nothing like a little trial and error to figure it out.

Theoratically, if they're omni-directional antennas (as most SOHO routers), they should both point straight up as spidey has said.
If they're directional antennas, they should point to wherever the end device is located.

I can't really tell you why c3p0 achieved best performance by pointing one horizontal.

When you setting a general system, or if all of your Wireless Clients are PCI with vertical Antenna, the two Router's Antenna should be Up.

However if you happen to have a Laptop that while working the Antenna is Horizontally positioned a horizontal position on one of the Router might do better.

It so happen that Trial and Error (as mentioned by c3p0) is inexpensive, and simple to try.

So install Netstumbler and try.
