What is the best way to connect a laptop to a TV?

When I use it from my PC, it is not full screen on the tv.
I suppose the TV is 1080 and the source is 720?
I there a work around or will it look crappy?
If you want to burn it to disc for storage then go ahead. This will take considerable time if it has to reencode the file to be blu-ray compatible. If not, why waste all that time when you can just play it straight off the laptop to the tv. If the picture is not filling up the whole screen then check your display software for a scaling setting.

you need to adjust overlay settings on your video driver.
Is that in a part of the control panel which is available when an external monitor is attached? I am on a laptop, so the videocard is integrated in a way I am not familliar with.

what is the video card on it? intel?
you would do extend desktop and just set the other screen (tv) to whatever its native resolution is, you need to adjust overlay if the tv is not showing your whole second desktop.

My TV had a zoom setting as well, so disabling overscan wasn't enough. The setting was something to help prevent "black bars" but it ended up making a 1080p resolution not fit on the screen. Might look through your video settings menu if disabling overscan isn't enough.
