What is the best way to compress a Fraps video?

Say I got a 640x480 video I recorded of HL2. They're pretty big (about 10MB/sec, 600MB/min). Whats the best way to compress it that has the best quality/filesize ratio? What about divx? I'm not too worried about compression time, as long as it's not outrageous.

Oh and the audio portion of it too to mp3 or whatever.

I find WMV to be pretty good, and compatibility is guaranteed. You can use Microsoft's Windows Media Encoder for this.

Or, if you really want the best quality, try h.264. Slow, but good quality for the filesize.

All of the sound quality options for mp3 in virtualdub are 24000hz sample rate. wheres 44.1khz?
