I know this is a silly question. I have some TV shows that I downloaded and they are in AVI format. I want to be able to burn them to a DVD and be able to play them in my DVD player. I tried to make a data disc in NERO thinking that this was all I needed to do. It plays fine in windows media player but when I put the disc in my DVD player it doesn't work

Should I be doing this a different way in NERO ?

Thanks for any replies

Unless your DVD player plays divx/xvid, it won't that way. You have to convert your files to DVD image before you can burn it. Don't ask me how though, I don't have a DVD burner.

Well I am guessing my cheapo DVD player isn't going to play them...I am looking for a quick way to process these AVI files to MPEG so I can burn them to a DVD-R and have them play on my DVD player

anyone have a good way of doing this ?

thank you

Recently I have wanted to do the same with a few .AVI files of my own. I also use Nero and believe that all we have to do is select to create an VCD or SVCD disc. Then select to Add our .AVI file and Nero should perform the conversion automatically if you have the correct plugins. I began to do this the other day and it started to work but I cancelled it after it completed 1% because it was going to take too long.

If you don't have the correct plugins post a reply asking for a link and I will see if I can find the link I used to download them. ;)

That would be great if you could post a link to a correct plug-in. HOw do you the plugin's work ? This is new territory for me, I have never done video editing before so any information would be helpful

also I will check out that site and see if I can get any info there

thanks again

I tried burning some video DVDs from AVI files using the (crappy) authoring software that came with my burner. I gave up because it wouldn't let me burn more than 1 hour of video on a DVD

I would like to find out myself... I burned avi files to CD using Nero, where I just drag the file over and click burn, and Nero encodes/burns for you.

It would be great if I can do that on a 4.7GB DVD, but I haven't figured it out yet.

If you have nero 6 you should be able to do it easily.

Load up nerovision express, and select 'Make DVD-video'. Then just drag in your .avi files, set up the menu for your dvd, and burn. Takes 5 minutes.

Note that nero will run a 'transcoding' program on your avi files before burning the disc - this can take a while (could be hours if you CPU is less than 1 GHz).

Thanks for the Info, question though for you. I go to NERO express, select the DVD tab and then go to photo and video and select burn DVD video files ??? that is the only selelction I can make

then when NERO starts up there is a Audio_TS folder and a red Video_TS folder....how do I go about dragging the files there ? Or am I in the wrong menu ?

thanks and sorry for the ignorant question

Does that let you change the compression so you can fit ~2 hours on a disc?

Yes. Lots of compression options: 'Standard' will get you about 2 hours on a disc; 'Long play' will get about 3. 'Extra long play' is supposed to get about 6.

I went and downloaded nero express, I then went to the menu to burn the files and it said I don't have the Nero Nero DVD-Video plug-in, what does this mean ? I can't find this plugin anywhere and I am getting very frustrated with this whole process

any ideas ?

thanks

Sorry. Forgot to mention, the DVD-video plugin is not included with the demo of nero. It only comes with the full version of Nero - on the web site it says retail and downloadable versions. I don't know if it is included with bundled versions.

you can always convert to mpeg2 with tmpgenc and then use tmpgenc author to create the vob and ifo files necessary for a video dvd.

well I had to reload NERO, for some reason it wouldn't take my serial number and I had a relatively old download. I redownloaded and installed the nero express upgrade and the latest version upgrade. I went through the make a DVD movie menu and I think I have gotten it to work...I will report back once i get home and am able to try it out....I think it was going to take roughly 6 hours to re-encode and then burn....keeping my fingers crossed

I did an .AVI file to DVD and it took quite a while to do. I had to convert it to MPEG2(used the trial of TMPGEnc Plus) and then use TMPGEnc DVD author(trial) to create the necessary files, which was what oog mentioned. It didn't quite turn out the way I wanted but it did finally work. Good luck and don't be afraid to download different trial programs and experiment with them! :)
