What is the best way to attach a fan to a Voodoo3 3000

I used to fool around with my friend's K6-2 that had a Voodoo3 3000 PCI. The HS on that sucker would get VERY hot.

The heast sink is very wide so I decided to just put a small celeron fan on it.

all it took was 2 screws on one side of the fan to wedge between 2 of the thick fins, and it held ok.

You could fool around with zip ties and find a more permanent way of keeping the fan on it.

After putting the fan on it, the HS would just get warm.

try tennmax if you want something cool - replacing the whole heat sink or the new blue orb for video & chipsets.

A fan would do good. I have an 80mm slim fan strapped on using cable ties. Its very stable as long as you're not physically shaking the case around too much. It even survived international shipping within the case.

I found that a 50mm fan fits the V3 3000 heatsink almost perfectly. The mounting holes in the fan almost perfectly line up with the mounting hole in the heatsink.

My V3 3000 has one of the bare aluminum heatsinks that is attached to the video card with two metal pins. The heatsink has 4 holes, but only two of them are used by the pins. So What I did was to line up the holes in the 50mm fan with the two open holes in the heatsink, and run twisty-ties through both the fan and heatsink to hold the fan securely.

If you wanted to, you could also remove the two metal pins holding the heatsink onto the card, and use long screws to secure both the fan and heatsink onto the card.

Just wondering, would taking off the heatsink void the warranty? My card has died once already and I'm really glad I had the warranty.

Mamiac, most definitely it will void the warranty, unless you find a way to fix it back perfectly with no sign of prior removal :)
